We all love orchids and we would like to have them in bloom forever. Since this isn't possible, let's see if there is any way we can ensure their flowers lost as long as they can. ▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼ Though orchid flowers have a limited lifespan, there are some ways to ensure that we will get the most time possible out of them. All we need to do is to pay attention to some factors such as: 1. Temperature Most orchids will prefer intermediate temperatures and will hold their blooms longer if they don't experience too hot, or too cold temperatures. Cold or hot air drafts can make buds drop and dry flowers. 2. Light Bright filtered light will be favorable for most common orchids available for purchase. Too little light will impair photosynthesis, while strong direct sun can burn both flowers and leaves. 3. Relative humidity Most orchids will do well in a 40% or higher environmental humidity. Some ways increase humidity include cool mist humidifiers and pebble trays. 4. Watering Too frequent watering might suffocate the root system of the orchid. Too infrequent watering can desiccate roots. The end result will be an orchid that cannot hydrate herself due to root loss and this will affect the blooms as well. 5 Knowing what orchid you have There is much variety on the market and each species has its own requirements. Giving adequate conditions for each type of orchid will inevitably translate in to better blooms. Here are my care tutorials on the most common orchid species available: Phalaenopsis orchids Cutting Phalaenopsis flower spikes Cattleya orchids Dendrobium nobile Oncidium orchids Brassia orchids 6. Ethylene gas It has been observed that many flowers, including orchid flowers, are affected by the presence of this gas. Place orchids away from ripening fruit, aerosols, smoke and engine exhausts. 7. Flower spike and bloom damage Water droplets can great fungal spots on the petals. This disease is known as Botrytis and more information can be read here Flowers and spikes are fragile, so make sure orchids are placed in a secure location, where they cannot fall on the floor. 8. Keeping orchids healthy Overall, the health of an orchid will influence the quality, quantity and bloom time of flowers. Adequate care and avoiding harmful external factors will only increase the bloom time and the beauty of their flowers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ✿ Want to send me something?
