Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or male impotency is a sort of sexual disorder characterized by the inability of a male to keep or withhold the erection during sexual intercourse. It's a frequent problem nowadays affecting nearly 40 percent of the male population and several men above age 40 suffer from ED, explains Vd Pooja Kiran (Ayurveda). Attaining an erection is a complex process that includes the brain, hormones, muscles, blood vessels, and appropriate mental health. A problem in any one of these organs may cause a failure in erection during sexual activities. In about 70-80% of instances, ED is usually a cause of some physical, physiological or psychological aspects. Physical variables generally include some disorder or injury like heart disease, hypercholesterolemia, low testosterone levels, spinal injury, diabetes, obesity, excessive use of alcohol, etc.. Whereas, psychological triggers involve depression, stress , stress, and relationship issues. Termed as 'Klaibya' in Ayurveda, it's strongly believed that ED may also happen due to excessive consumption of incompatible foods which are high on sodium, or sugar, or are heavy or sour. Considering that a healthy brain is important during physical activity, an imbalance in the Vata doshas play an integral role. An increase of this Vata doshas may result in jealousy, fear, confusion, intoxication, anger, and so on, and these negative emotions may finally cause excessive palpitation and perspiration during physical activity and cause you to lose interest from the spouse.
