Bodybuilders frequently use T2 and T3 thyroid hormones for one very important reason: to help them lose weight fast and get competition ready. Why should you care what bodybuilders do as a thyroid patients? Because believe it or not, we can learn from their mistake and better understand the impact that their experiments have on hormones and thyroid function more generally. The first thing to understand is that bodybuilders don't touch levothyroxine or T4-only thyroid medication with a 10-foot pole. The reason is simple: it won't help with weight loss. This is super important because the majority of you listening to this are using levothyroxine or Synthroid which is a T4-only thyroid medication. And, if you are like other thyroid patients, you are probably wondering why you are having issues losing weight. T3 and T2 thyroid hormones are much more effective at helping with weight loss and can be safely combined with T4 medications like levothyroxine. T3 is available as a prescription and T2 can be purchased as an over-the-counter supplement. In addition, as long as these hormones are used appropriately, they won't cause unwanted side effects like they would in body builders.
