This is a song called "Spare Tire," written by Herman Cody, sung in the style of traditional Navajo social songs. It is found on the album entitled "My Way." Traditional Navajo social songs can include a wide variety of topics and this is an excellent example of that. These types of songs are non-ceremonial social song typically sung during public events, song and dances, or during school performances. Only Herman Cody is known for singing this song. The lyrics are provided here to serve as a teaching tool of the Navajo language. They say the best way to learn a language is through music. A popular activity on the Navajo reservation is a series sponsored by the Health Promotion program of the Indian Health Service called "Just Move It (T'áá Hwó Ájít'éego)." These are a series of community runs and fun walks that are 3 to 4 miles long and are held all over the Navajo reservation. The pictures taken in this video are largely from the JMI events held within Chinle, Shiprock, and Kayenta Service Units. Herman Cody is the uncle of world-renown Grammy nominee Radmilla Cody.
