JOIN BROADCAST PLAZA TODAY, DISCORD'S MEDIA DISCUSSION COMMUNITY — Full length 6pm newscast from the ABC (WABG), CBS (WXVT), and NBC (WNBD) affiliates covering the Mississippi Delta. Fox is also carried on WABG's 6.2 channel. Cities served include Greenville, Greenwood, and Cleveland. At the time owned by Cox Media Group, the station is now under the control of Imagicomm Communications. I kind of went into the history and background in the morning open I posted so you can check there (or Wikipedia) for more. But briefly: The Delta News is the only local newscast in the Mississippi Delta. WXVT and WABG were once competing operations, but basically WABG (which already had Fox on DT2 and NBC on a low power station) bought WXVT. They continued with separate newscasts until Northwest Broadcasting stepped in and acquired the station in 2015. Northwest is Brian Brady's company who operated the station, but he teamed up with California radio broadcaster Jason Wolff to purchase this and the former Pollack-Belz stations in Eureka, California and Alexandria, Louisiana. The three markets operated under the legal subsidiary "Cala Broadcast Partners" (because, get it, California and Louisiana after the two Pollack-Belz markets?). Northwest immediately combined WXVT and WABG's operations into one news department, based at WABG's longtime studios in Greenville with staffers from both stations. Wolff loves the slogan "News That Works For You", so it became the slogan of the newly christened The Delta News. Private equity firm Apollo Global Management bought the original Cox Media Group in 2019 and combined it with Northwest Broadcasting, which it bought at the same time. Apollo did very little to integrate the former Northwest stations into the larger Cox chain and later offloaded them. Music is Momentum News from Non-Stop Music. Voiceover is Ben Blankenship (associated with WXVT for several years pre-WABG merger). Graphics are a heavily modified version of the VideoHive package "Broadcast Design - Complete News Package 3", which can be yours for $53. Anchored by Lakiya Scott, chief meteorologist Christopher Mathis (longtime WABG'er), and sports director Stephen Robinson (longtime WXVT'er). Includes reports from Timmy Lane, Andranita Williams, Woodrow Wilkins, and Mandy Gaither (CNN Newsource). Lisa Robertson hosts "Local Steals and Deals". Commercials are edited out, station promos have been retained. ©2021 Cox Media Group (now owned by Imagicomm Communications) and WABG-TV/WXVT-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
