The Drug Enforcement Administration determined that Delta-8 THC-O and Delta-9 THC-O are Schedule I controlled substances: #thco #delta8 #thcoacetate #synthetic #cannabinoids Interest in THC-O (also called THC-O acetate) and other synthetic cannabinoids has been surging since the 2018 Farm Bill passed. The bill loosened federal restrictions on hemp-derived compounds, resulting in an influx of THC-O products being sold online. Neither of the now-prohibited cannabinoids occurs naturally in hemp plants. Instead, they're synthesized in a complex chemical process. Recent research has even linked vaping THC-O to severe lung disease. Terrence Boos, chief of the DEA's Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section, responded to an attorney's letter asking about the legal status of the controversial cannabinoids. "Delta-9-THCO and delta-8-THCO do not occur naturally in the cannabis plant and can only be obtained synthetically," Boos responded, "and therefore do not fall under the definition of hemp." Both forms of THC-O now fall under Schedule I of the Controlled Substance Act.
