This video documents the improved method I have developed after I posted the first video last year showing my beginner's attempt at setting up a Soxhlet extractor for the first time. I was using 190 proof Everclear as the solvent, but found that evaporation losses were expensive(at 130.00 a gallon for alcohol). Using acetone allows me to extract at lower temperatures and the evaporation losses, even at 100% evaporation are manageable(acetone is about $17.00 per gallon). I could even recover some of the acetone with the Soxhlet as a distiller. The resulting very viscous oil is liquified with the grain alcohol to the desired strength and combined with DMSO and peppermint oil to achieve a very effective topically applied pain relief liniment.
